BELVEDERE PLANTATION AND GOLF COUNTRY CLUB
 Belvedere Plantation Golf & Country Club – Hampstead
Opened in 1972, Belvedere Plantation lies off of Route 17 North, just 20 minutes north of Wilmington. The 18-hole, par-71 layout features bentgrass greens, pine-lined Bermuda grass fairways, water on half the holes, and a scattering of bunkers that make even skilled players think twice before addressing the ball. The waste areas are nicely groomed and the elevated tees are reminiscent of a Donald Ross-style layout, thanks to architect Russell Birney's design. Belvedere Plantation was recently sold to Jack Broadbridge, the New England native’s first golf course.

| Just a couple of miles from the seafood capitol of North Carolina you can find yourself right in the middle of the wild dunes and ocean breezes of the Scots Highlands.
Castle Bay Golf and Country Club features rolling dunes with carefully manicured fairways of wire grass, weeping love grass and native grasses, and bent-grass greens. The course is woven through protected wetlands, strategically placed water hazards and sand bunkers.
Course lengths run from about 5,500 yards to 6,700 yards.
On my first visit, as soon as I parked and got out of the car, a staff member pulled right up with a golf car and offered to get the clubs from the trunk.
The clubhouse and shops are complete with golf equipment and attire, and the snack bar has lots of comfortable seating overlooking the course.
The head golf professional is Paul Barbini, and Allen L. Smith is the course superintendent.

North Shore Country Club is located adjacent to one of coastal North Carolina's most pristine vacation destinations. Surrounded by miles of white sandy beaches and natural salt marshes, North Shore Country Club offers much more than a great round of golf.
Located in southeastern North Carolina, midway between the cities of Jacksonville(to the north) and Wilmington (to the south) North Shore Country Club sits just off Topsail Island.
Topsail is a 26-mile-long barrier island and one of the least-developed areas on the Carolina coast. With the Atlantic Ocean on one side and the Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway (ICW) on the other, Topsail is a wonderland for boaters, fisherman, swimmers, surfers, beachcombers, or just about anyone who loves the water.
The Topsail area has a year-round population of about 16,000 people, although this doubles in the summer. The area includes all of coastal Pender County (Topsail Township), southern Onslow County (Stump Township), and the Porters Neck area in northern New Hanover County.
With four incorporated towns and several other major identifiable communities, Topsail remains a fast-growing destination for vacationers. While offering natural surroundings unrivaled on the East Coast, Topsail also offers lodging, dining, shopping, and leisure activities to keep visitors busy when they aren’t on the golf course, on the boat, or in the ocean.
Retirees and other residents have found the area's climate to be desirable year-round, while the two nearby medium-sized cities of Wilmington and Jacksonville offer a complete range of educational and cultural resources, as well as quality health-care facilities.
Topsail has gained a distinct identity with its own newspaper (Topsail Voice), radio station (WZX-103.9 FM), and place of higher learning (Cape Fear Community College–Hampstead Campus).
In the spring it is home to the Topsail Island Spring Fling (including the Surf 'n Turf Triathlon); in the summer the Sneads Ferry Shrimp Festival; in the fall comes Autumn With Topsail, the NC Spot Festival, and the Holly Ridge Holly Fest; and in the winter the Sneads Ferry Winter Festival.
North Shore Country Club is an easy drive from Camp Lejeune, a principle Marine Corps base, and the New River Air Station. |
